Mortal Shell is a masterclass in atmosphere and tension. I was immediately hooked by the unique “shell” mechanic, which forces you to adapt your playstyle by switching between different warriors you discover in the world. The combat feels weighty and rewarding once you get the timing of the hardening ability down. Even though it is shorter than other games in the genre, the high level of polish and the dark, haunting environments kept me engaged until the very final boss fight.
The performance of Mortal Shell on my PC is incredibly smooth, and the visual design is genuinely some of the best I have seen in an indie Soulslike. I really appreciate how the developers respected the player’s time by focusing on tight map design rather than unnecessary filler. While the difficulty spike can be frustrating for newcomers, overcoming those tough encounters is so satisfying. If you enjoy challenging action RPGs with deep lore and a cryptic world to explore, this title is definitely worth playing.
