River City Ransom: Underground is a total blast from the past that perfectly captures the spirit of the original NES classic. The combat feels snappy and responsive, and the deep RPG mechanics keep things interesting as you unlock new moves and boost your stats. While the difficulty spikes can be a bit frustrating at times, the co-op mode makes it a must-play experience for anyone who grew up loving neighborhood brawlers. It’s a polished tribute that feels right at home on PC today.
If you enjoy fighting games with a sense of humor and tons of charm, you really can’t go wrong here. The pixel art is gorgeous and pays great homage to the 8-bit era while adding enough modern detail to look sharp on high-resolution monitors. The character roster is surprisingly diverse, each with their own unique fighting styles and quirks that add a ton of replay value. It’s easily one of the best indie revivals I’ve played in years, especially when grabbing a controller with friends.
