Contrast is one of the most unique puzzle-platformers I have played in a long time. The core mechanic of shifting between the 3D world and 2D shadow projections is incredibly clever and never gets old. I played this on my PC and the performance was buttery smooth throughout the entire journey. The jazz-inspired soundtrack combined with the cabaret-noir atmosphere creates a hauntingly beautiful experience that pulls you in from the very first minute of gameplay.
The story is surprisingly emotional, focusing on a young girl navigating her complicated family life through the eyes of an imaginary friend. While the controls can feel a little floaty during some of the more complex platforming segments, the overall visual style and artistic direction more than make up for it. It is a shorter game, but the replay value is decent if you want to find all the hidden collectibles. It is definitely worth picking up for indie fans.
