While the game initially surprised the public thanks to its in-house developed “X-Tend” engine, which offered exceptionally sharp lighting and textures for the time, the final version ran into serious obstacles: unoptimized performance, monotonous level design with corridors so dark they were disorienting, and enemies that acted like “bullet sponges” and barely reacted in combat. This clunky gameplay, combined with an English voice localization notorious for its unnaturalness, ultimately cemented its reputation as a bland and frustrating shooter, as it felt so unfinished.
