Dragon Age 2 took a massive risk by focusing on a singular city over a decade, and honestly, it paid off in terms of character depth. The banter between your companions is some of the best in the series, making the personal story of Hawke feel incredibly grounded and intimate. While the combat is much faster and more arcade-like than the original, it keeps things exciting through every encounter. If you are playing on PC, it runs smoothly and the mods really help polish the experience.
The recurring criticism about environment recycling is fair, but the strong narrative and moral dilemmas more than make up for it. I found myself actually caring about the tension between the mages and templars, which is a testament to the game’s excellent writing. The replay value is solid because your choices drastically change how the city of Kirkwall reacts to you by the end. It is a fantastic, fast-paced RPG that deserves more credit for trying something different within the franchise.
