Dead Effect is honestly one of the best classic sci-fi shooters if you want that old-school zombie survival vibe. The atmosphere on the ESS Meridian is legitimately creepy, and fighting through hordes of infected crew members never really gets old. I played this on PC and the graphics still hold up surprisingly well for a title of its age. It’s a great pick-up-and-play experience if you just want to clear some rooms and test out your aim against waves of mutants.
The controls feel solid, though the difficulty can definitely spike if you aren’t careful with your ammo management. I really appreciate how the story unfolds through little audio logs and environmental storytelling—it definitely pulls you into the mystery of what went wrong on the ship. While it might not be the most modern shooter out there, the replay value is decent because of the different weapon upgrades. If you enjoy tense, fast-paced action games, this one deserves a spot in your library.
