“NASCAR ’14” vary widely. Whilst stock car fans particularly appreciate the realistic driver line-up and the game’s user-friendliness, the gaming community as a whole has levelled fierce criticism at the outdated graphics, the clunky driving physics and the frustrating AI.
The PC version of “NASCAR ’14” finds itself in an awkward grey area; it feels more like an uninspired and unmotivated product that is content to simply update the driver roster each season than a fully-fledged racing simulation. Both critics and players also criticised the game’s outdated graphics, particularly the flat 2D spectator models, as well as the ‘Sim-Cade’ physics model with its frustrating inconsistency, which favours standard controllers at the expense of professional PC steering wheels.
