Playing The Cursed Crusade brings back a lot of memories from the late 2000s era of hack-and-slash games. The combat mechanics are surprisingly deep for when it was released, focusing heavily on weapon weight and timing rather than just button mashing. Exploring the historical settings while dealing with the supernatural narrative kept me interested enough to finish the campaign. It definitely has that “janky” charm that makes older titles feel unique, even if the animations show their age on modern hardware.
I spent a weekend playing this title on my PC, and it was a fun throwback. While the co-op mode is where the real entertainment happens, the solo experience is decent if you enjoy gritty medieval themes. The gear progression system feels rewarding, and the boss fights offer a fair challenge. If you can overlook some clunky camera angles and dated textures, it’s a solid pick for history buffs who want a bit of fantasy action mixed into their gameplay.
